Each day is dedicated to one basic subject, creating a strong foundation of knowledge and self confidence to build on for the rest of their lives.
Here is an example of a reading and writing worksheet inspired by household items and toys. This concept can be easily translated to a conversation, or even a scavenger hunt, instead of just a worksheet. Ask your child to find a handful of items around the house, and then replicate this worksheet with those same items. This is fun for most kids, as it gives them a chance to choose what they are going to be learning about. For students with different learning styles, such as ADHD, finding items around the house that they find intresting will help them to absorb the information faster, and they will associate interest with learning for a life time.
Science is one of our favorite subject because it is everywhere! Science lives in everything, and we think that there are opportunities to teach science at home without fancy equiptment.
Chemistry, Biology, Physics, Geology, and so many other branches of science can be taught at home using the basic scientific process. We encourage parents to plant seeds of each branch with their child at a young age, so that they can fully explore their potetial.
This math sheet was designed by one of our 5 year old students. The template was simply counting, and she got to choose what picture each number gets. 1 gets dino's, 2 gets flowers, 3 gets diamonds, and 4 gets gold ornaments. Allowing her to assign something she likes to each number made this project more of a fun game rather than just a worksheet. Completing the worksheet then became a natural and fun next step. Associating a fun memory with the idea of counting and addition will allow math skills to fall in place more naturally, without the pressure of being graded.
The worksheet above is our workout routine template. At Wild Bear Learning, we believe students with different ways of learning benefit greatly from regular excersize. For this project, the parent will brain storm with the child about indoor and outdoor excersizes you can do for each of those muscle groups. Track your progress, customize your routine, and level up together!
Creativity worksheets hold the most opportunity for diversity, as creativity is a very general subject. Most students relate this subject to simple art projects, such as painting or making Jewelry with beads. However, creativity can be overlapped in any of the other subjects and gives the student another opportunity to sculpt their education into skills that they can use later in life to succeed. In the worksheet above, you are presented with a simple daily project log that focuses on being present and breaking down projects into tasks. Weekends belong to the kids! The weekends should be a free time of relaxation. Every weekend we encourage the parents to keep up with the routines, but replace the subject with self-care. This is a journal page designed to keep your child track even on the weekends.
This program idea was originally based on the thought of ADHD kids going unnoticed, and/or being diagnosed with the wrong Mental Health Condition. These types of kids often times won't benefit from the traditional school setting the way other kids might. We decided to take our child's education into our own hands, and let them explore their true potential by giving them the freedom to learn the way they feel most comfortable learning.
At Wild Bear Learning, we believe that a well-rounded education includes opportunities for students to explore their interests and passions outside of the classroom. Children with different ways of learning benefit especially from regular exercize, interactions with music, and engineering projects. We encourage parents to socialize their students by allowing them to join in a extracurricular activity of their choice. They are often times more emotionally receptive as well. Therefore, when you introduce other children into their lives in a teamwork setting, they will be more likely to succeed when working with other adults in the future as a result of their ability to reconcile with their own emotions and others.
Although we point out how important learning differences are to us, it may not come off that way to the student. When you decide to sign up for our program, you'll notice we dont ask if your student has a learning differnce. That is because we believe this style of homeschool can be beneficial for all students, whether they have a learning difference or not. Some children may be sensative to the lable, depending on their surroundings growing up, and their personality. Approach your child with genuine intrest in their needs when confronting them about joining this program. When the child and the parent agree on what the childs needs are, they are even more likely to enjoy this curriculum.
